Glock 19

More holsters, more grip tape, and more aftermarket support exist for the G19 than for almost any other pistol on the market, which makes picking well harder, not easier. This is the shortlist: fit-specific holsters molded to the exact frame, grip texture that doesn't change how it sits in an existing holster, and the mount plate to run a red dot on a Gen5 MOS slide correctly the first time.

Glock 19 questions

Will a Glock 19 holster fit a Glock 23 or 32?

Usually yes. The 19, 23, and 32 share a frame and slide footprint; only the chambering differs, so kydex molded for a G19 fits all three. The Glock 45 and 19X also fit most G19 holsters since they use the same slide length. What won't fit is a Glock 17 holster, which is sized for a longer slide.

Do I need a different holster after adding a red dot?

Often, yes. Standard kydex is cut flush with the top of the slide and will bind against a mounted optic. Look for holsters explicitly listed as optic-cut or RDS-compatible: they're built with a raised channel over the sight window. Adding a weapon light changes the fit too, and always requires a light-specific holster.

What optic plate does a Gen5 MOS Glock 19 need?

MOS pistols ship with a set of factory plates, but they're widely considered the weak link, and many shooters replace them with a machined aftermarket plate cut for their specific optic footprint. Match the plate to your dot: Trijicon RMR/SRO and Holosun 407C/507C/508C all share one pattern, while the smaller 407K/507K use another.

Does grip tape change how the gun fits my holster?

A quality thin adhesive wrap won't. Grip tape sits on the frame's grip area, not the slide or trigger guard, and kydex retention indexes on those, so the holster fit is unchanged. Stippling or a grip reduction is a different story, since that permanently alters the frame.
